Cream Cheese Stuffed Cheese Loaf: A Soft, Savory Bread with a Creamy Cheese Center
Cream Cheese Stuffed Cheese Loaf is a rich, soft, and flavorful homemade bread filled with a creamy cheese mixture. It has a golden crust, a tender cheesy crumb, and a smooth cream cheese center that melts beautifully when the loaf is sliced warm. This recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, afternoon snacks, dinner sides, or serving with soups, pasta, roasted chicken, or salads.
What makes this loaf special is the combination of two textures: the bread itself is soft and cheesy, while the filling is creamy, slightly tangy, and rich. Every slice has a comforting balance of bread, butter, cheese, and creaminess.
Ingredients
For the Cheese Loaf Batter
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley or Italian seasoning
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup milk
- ¼ cup melted butter
- ¼ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
For the Cream Cheese Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of salt
For the Topping
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 2 tablespoons shredded cheddar or mozzarella
- A pinch of dried parsley
Step 1: Prepare the Loaf Pan
Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C.
Grease a standard loaf pan with butter or cooking spray. You can also line it with parchment paper, leaving some paper hanging over the sides. This makes it easier to lift the loaf out after baking.
Using parchment paper is helpful because the cheese filling can sometimes soften near the edges.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried parsley.
Stir well until everything is evenly combined.
The baking powder helps the loaf rise, while the garlic, onion, and herbs give the bread a savory flavor. The small amount of sugar does not make the bread sweet; it helps balance the saltiness of the cheese and improves browning.
Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and yogurt or sour cream.
The yogurt or sour cream helps keep the loaf moist and tender. It also adds a slight tang that works well with the cheese and cream cheese filling.
Make sure the melted butter is warm, not hot. If it is too hot, it can cook the eggs.
