Crispy Parmesan Ham & Cheese Sliders: A Golden, Buttery Party Sandwich Recipe
Crispy Parmesan Ham & Cheese Sliders are warm, cheesy mini sandwiches made with soft slider buns, savory ham, melted cheese, buttery garlic topping, and a crisp parmesan crust. They are simple to prepare, easy to serve, and perfect for parties, family dinners, game nights, picnics, brunch tables, or quick weekend meals.
These sliders are special because they combine two textures in one bite. The inside is soft, warm, and cheesy, while the outside becomes golden, buttery, and slightly crispy from the parmesan topping. The ham adds a salty, smoky flavor, and the melted cheese pulls everything together into a rich and satisfying sandwich.
Why This Recipe Works
The best sliders are not just small sandwiches. They need balance. The bread should stay soft inside but crisp on top. The cheese should melt smoothly. The ham should be layered evenly so every bite has flavor. The buttery parmesan topping adds garlic, herbs, and crunch, making the sliders taste more like a baked savory dish than a basic sandwich.
This recipe is also very convenient because the sliders are baked together in one dish. You can assemble them ahead of time, bake them when needed, and serve them straight from the pan.
Ingredients
For the Sliders
- 12 slider buns or Hawaiian rolls
- 12 slices deli ham
- 6 to 8 slices Swiss cheese, provolone, cheddar, or mozzarella
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, optional
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or honey mustard, optional
For the Parmesan Butter Topping
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, optional
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds or sesame seeds, optional
For Extra Crispiness
- 2 tablespoons extra grated parmesan cheese for sprinkling on top
Step 1: Prepare the Baking Dish
Preheat your oven to 350°F / 175°C.
Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray. A 9×13 inch baking dish works well for 12 sliders.
If you want easier cleanup, line the dish with parchment paper or foil. Make sure the paper does not cover the tops of the sliders, because the bread needs direct heat to become golden and crisp.
Step 2: Slice the Slider Buns
Keep the slider buns connected if possible. Use a long serrated knife to slice the whole block of rolls in half horizontally.
Place the bottom half of the buns into the prepared baking dish.
Keeping the buns connected makes assembly easier and helps the sliders bake evenly. After baking, you can cut them apart into individual sandwiches.
Step 3: Add the Sauce Layer
Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the bottom buns if you want a richer taste.
Then spread Dijon mustard or honey mustard over the mayonnaise.
This sauce layer adds moisture and flavor. Dijon mustard gives a sharper flavor, while honey mustard adds a sweet and tangy taste.
Do not use too much sauce, because the bread can become soggy. A thin, even layer is enough.
Step 4: Layer the Ham
Place the ham slices evenly over the bottom buns.
You can fold the ham slices slightly to create a thicker, more textured layer. This also helps the sliders feel fuller.
Make sure the ham reaches all edges of the bread so every slider has enough filling.
If you prefer a stronger flavor, use smoked ham, honey ham, black forest ham, or leftover baked ham sliced thinly.
Step 5: Add the Cheese
Place the cheese slices over the ham.
Swiss cheese is a classic choice because it melts well and pairs beautifully with ham. Provolone gives a mild creamy taste, cheddar adds sharpness, and mozzarella gives a stretchy texture.
You can also mix two cheeses. For example, use Swiss for flavor and mozzarella for meltiness.
Cover the ham fully with cheese so the filling holds together after baking.
