Candied Bacon Crackers: A Sweet and Savory Caramelized Snack Recipe

Candied Bacon Crackers are the perfect combination of sweet, salty, crispy, and smoky flavors. This simple appetizer combines buttery crackers, crispy bacon, brown sugar, and seasonings to create a delicious bite-sized treat that feels both comforting and special.

These little snacks are popular for parties, holiday gatherings, brunches, game nights, and family celebrations. The magic happens when the brown sugar melts into the bacon while baking, creating a caramelized glaze that coats the crackers with a rich sweet-and-savory flavor.

The recipe is easy to prepare, requires only a few ingredients, and delivers a snack that looks impressive without complicated techniques.

What Makes Candied Bacon Crackers Special?

The appeal of these crackers comes from the contrast of textures and flavors:

  • Buttery crackers provide a crisp, slightly salty base.
  • Bacon adds smoky, savory richness.
  • Brown sugar creates a sweet caramel coating.
  • Spices add warmth and depth.

During baking, the bacon fat melts into the sugar and crackers, creating a crunchy, caramelized topping that makes every bite addictive.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package buttery round crackers (about 40–50 crackers)
  • 1 pound thin-cut bacon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)

Optional Toppings

  • Sea salt flakes
  • Fresh cracked black pepper
  • Chopped fresh herbs
  • Extra brown sugar for a stronger caramel layer

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Tray

Preheat your oven to:

350°F (175°C)

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet if you have one. A rack allows the bacon fat to drip away while the crackers stay crisp.

If you do not have a rack, you can bake directly on parchment paper. Just make sure to remove excess grease carefully after baking.

Step 2: Arrange the Crackers

Place the crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.

Make sure they are close together but not overlapping.

The crackers will absorb some of the bacon flavor while baking, so arranging them evenly helps each piece get the perfect amount of topping.

Step 3: Prepare the Bacon

Cut each bacon strip into pieces slightly larger than the cracker surface.

The bacon will shrink slightly during baking, so avoid cutting pieces that are too small.

For the best result, use thin-cut bacon because it becomes crispier and cooks evenly.

Thick bacon can work, but it may require extra baking time.

Step 4: Create the Sweet Bacon Mixture

In a small bowl, combine:

  • Brown sugar
  • Smoked paprika
  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper (if using)
  • Garlic powder (if using)

Mix well.

The brown sugar creates the caramel coating, while the spices balance the sweetness and bring out the smoky bacon flavor.

For a maple-flavored version, mix in a tablespoon of maple syrup to create a deeper caramel taste.
