Cheeseburger Biscuit Squares: A Cozy, Cheesy Family Favorite

If you love the classic flavors of a cheeseburger but want something easier to prepare and serve, Cheeseburger Biscuit Squares are the perfect answer. This comforting dish combines seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, and a soft, golden biscuit topping in one hearty bake. Instead of forming individual burger patties, everything is layered into a baking dish and cut into convenient squares once baked.

They are especially useful for busy weeknight dinners because the filling comes together quickly, and the oven does most of the work. Serve them with a crisp salad, roasted vegetables, pickles, or even a simple bowl of soup for a satisfying meal.

What Makes Cheeseburger Biscuit Squares So Good?

The appeal of this recipe is its combination of textures and familiar flavors. The beef filling is savory and juicy, while the cheese melts into the meat and creates a rich layer throughout the dish. On top, the biscuit mixture bakes into a tender, lightly golden crust.

Unlike traditional cheeseburgers, these squares don’t require shaping patties, standing over a skillet for each batch, or assembling individual sandwiches. Everything is baked together, making this recipe convenient for feeding a family.

You can also customize the filling with your favorite cheeseburger toppings, such as diced pickles, onions, or a little mustard.

Ingredients

For the Cheeseburger Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Biscuit Topping

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • ¾ cup milk

Optional Toppings

  • Dill pickle slices
  • Extra shredded cheddar
  • Finely chopped green onions
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Burger sauce

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Dish

Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Lightly grease an approximately 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish. Greasing the dish makes the finished squares easier to remove and helps prevent the beef mixture from sticking.

Set the dish aside while you prepare the filling.

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef.

Cook for about 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon or spatula as it cooks. Continue until the beef is browned and no longer pink.

If there is a significant amount of excess fat in the skillet, carefully drain it.

Keeping a little of the natural moisture in the beef helps prevent the filling from becoming dry.
