Walnut Cream Pie: A Rich, Creamy Dessert with a Buttery Walnut Crunch
There is something wonderfully comforting about a homemade Walnut Cream Pie. It combines a crisp, buttery crust with a smooth, creamy filling and plenty of toasted walnuts for a dessert that feels both nostalgic and elegant. Unlike a traditional walnut or pecan pie that relies heavily on a syrupy filling, this version has a softer, creamier texture while still delivering plenty of nutty flavor.
This pie is especially delicious served chilled, when the filling has had enough time to set and the toasted walnuts add a satisfying contrast to every creamy bite.

How to Make Walnut Cream Pie Step by Step
Step 1: Prepare the Pie Crust
Start by making the crust.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold butter and work it into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingertips.
The mixture should resemble coarse crumbs with a few small pieces of butter still visible. Those little pieces of butter help create a flaky crust.
Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, gently mixing until the dough begins to come together.
Avoid adding too much water. The dough should hold together when pressed but should not feel wet or sticky.
Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it, and refrigerate it for about 30 minutes.
Step 2: Roll Out the Dough
Lightly flour your work surface and roll the chilled dough into a circle slightly larger than your 9-inch pie dish.
Carefully transfer the dough into the dish. Press it gently against the bottom and sides without stretching it.
Trim any excess dough around the edge and create a simple crimped or decorative border.
Place the prepared crust in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
Step 3: Toast the Walnuts
This small step makes a major difference in the final flavor.
Spread the walnuts on a baking sheet and toast them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for approximately 7–10 minutes.
Keep an eye on them because nuts can go from perfectly toasted to burnt quickly.
Once fragrant and lightly browned, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool. Roughly chop about half of them while leaving the remaining pieces slightly larger for texture.
