Pecan Praline Ritz Cracker Cookies

If you love the combination of buttery pecans, rich caramel, and a little bit of crunch, these Pecan Praline Ritz Cracker Cookies are a treat you’ll want to keep in your recipe box. They’re sweet, buttery, crunchy, and surprisingly easy to make.

The secret is the unexpected use of Ritz crackers. Their light, crisp texture provides a slightly salty contrast to the rich praline topping, keeping these cookies from tasting overwhelmingly sweet. Toasted pecans add a wonderful nutty flavor, while the caramel-like praline mixture melts into the crackers and sets into a deliciously crisp topping.

These cookies are especially nice for holiday cookie trays, potlucks, parties, or whenever you want a homemade dessert without spending hours making traditional cookie dough.

Why You’ll Love These Cookies

There are several reasons these little treats disappear quickly:

  • No traditional cookie dough is required.
  • Ritz crackers provide a buttery, crisp base.
  • Toasted pecans add rich, nutty flavor.
  • The praline topping becomes wonderfully caramelized as it bakes.
  • They require only a handful of simple ingredients.
  • They’re easy to prepare ahead of time.
  • The sweet-and-salty combination makes them hard to resist.

Ingredients

For the Cookies

  • 1 sleeve Ritz crackers, about 30–35 crackers
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Finishing Touch

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • A small pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Additional finely chopped pecans

The chocolate is completely optional, but a light chocolate drizzle adds another layer of flavor and makes the cookies look especially festive.

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This is important because the praline mixture becomes very sticky while baking, and parchment makes cleanup much easier.

Arrange the Ritz crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Place them close together so that the praline topping can cover as much of each cracker as possible.

Step 2: Toast the Pecans

For the best flavor, lightly toast the pecans before adding them to the praline mixture.

Place the chopped pecans in a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Stir frequently for about 3–5 minutes, just until they become fragrant.

Be careful not to let them burn. Pecans can go from perfectly toasted to bitter surprisingly quickly.

Remove them from the heat and set them aside.

Step 3: Make the Praline Mixture

Place the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Once the butter has melted, add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and heavy cream. Stir continuously until everything is combined.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and continue cooking for approximately 2–3 minutes, stirring often.

The mixture should become glossy and slightly thicker.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the vanilla extract and salt.

Finally, fold in the toasted chopped pecans.

You should now have a rich, buttery pecan mixture that resembles a quick praline sauce.
