Turkey Stuffing Balls with Gravy
Turkey Stuffing Balls with Gravy are a comforting way to turn classic holiday flavors into a fun, easy-to-serve dish. Instead of preparing stuffing as one large casserole, the mixture is shaped into individual golden-brown balls, giving each serving a lightly crisp exterior and a soft, savory center. Served with warm turkey gravy, they make a wonderful side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or a cozy family dinner.
The best part is that these stuffing balls are flexible. They can be made with homemade stuffing or leftover prepared stuffing, and they pair beautifully with turkey, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce, or a simple green salad.
Ingredients
For the Stuffing Balls
- 4 cups prepared stuffing, cooled
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- ½ cup finely chopped celery
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2–4 tablespoons chicken or turkey broth, as needed
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, optional
For the Gravy
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups turkey or chicken broth
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- 1–2 tablespoons turkey drippings, optional
Step-by-Step Method
1. Prepare the stuffing mixture
If using leftover stuffing, allow it to cool completely before beginning. Place the stuffing in a large mixing bowl and break up any large pieces with a fork.
Add the chopped onion, celery, sage, thyme, black pepper, melted butter, and parsley. Stir gently until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
2. Add the egg
Beat the egg in a small bowl, then pour it into the stuffing mixture. Mix until everything is well combined.
The egg acts as a binder and helps the stuffing balls hold their shape while cooking.
If the mixture seems too dry or crumbly to shape, add turkey or chicken broth one tablespoon at a time. You want the mixture moist enough to hold together but not wet or mushy.
3. Shape the stuffing balls
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Scoop out approximately ¼ cup of the mixture and gently roll it between your hands to form a compact ball. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.
Continue until all the mixture has been used. Try to keep the balls approximately the same size so they cook evenly.
Avoid packing them too tightly. A gentle touch will help preserve the soft texture inside.
