Double Chocolate Bundt Cake

There are chocolate cakes, and then there are chocolate cakes that make everyone stop after the first bite. This Double Chocolate Bundt Cake belongs firmly in the second category. Rich, deeply chocolatey, incredibly moist, and finished with a silky chocolate glaze, it is the kind of dessert that looks impressive without requiring complicated decorating skills.

The secret is using chocolate in two forms: unsweetened cocoa powder for a deep chocolate flavor and chocolate chips for little pockets of melted chocolate throughout the cake. A touch of coffee intensifies the cocoa flavor without making the cake taste like coffee, while sour cream keeps the crumb soft and tender.

Whether you’re making it for a birthday, holiday gathering, Sunday dinner, or simply because you are craving chocolate, this Bundt cake is an easy dessert that feels special enough for any occasion.

How to Make Double Chocolate Bundt Cake

Step 1: Prepare the Bundt Pan

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

A Bundt cake can sometimes be difficult to remove from the pan because of its decorative shape, so preparing the pan properly is especially important. Generously grease every part of a 10- to 12-cup Bundt pan, making sure to reach all the ridges and corners.

Dust the greased pan lightly with cocoa powder instead of flour. This prevents white flour marks from appearing on the finished chocolate cake.

Set the pan aside while you prepare the batter.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Whisking helps distribute the cocoa powder and leavening agents evenly throughout the flour. Set the bowl aside.

Step 3: Cream the Butter and Sugar

Place the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl.

Beat them together for about 3 to 4 minutes, until the mixture becomes noticeably lighter and fluffy.

This step helps incorporate air into the batter, which contributes to a lighter texture. Avoid rushing it, especially if you’re using an electric mixer.

Step 4: Add the Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Once all four eggs have been incorporated, mix in the vanilla extract.

If the mixture looks slightly curdled at this stage, don’t worry. Once the dry ingredients are added, the batter will come together.
