Double Chocolate Bundt Cake
If you are looking for a chocolate dessert that feels rich, indulgent, and wonderfully homemade, this Double Chocolate Bundt Cake is a perfect choice. It combines deep chocolate flavor in a soft, tender cake with plenty of chocolate throughout every slice. The Bundt shape gives it an elegant appearance, while a simple chocolate glaze adds an extra layer of richness.
What makes this cake especially appealing is its texture. The outside develops a delicate crust as it bakes, while the center stays moist and tender. Chocolate chips or chunks scattered through the batter melt into little pockets of chocolate, making every bite extra satisfying.
Ingredients
For the Cake
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
For the Chocolate Glaze
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Step-by-Step Method
1. Prepare the Bundt Pan
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Generously grease a 10- to 12-cup Bundt pan, making sure to coat the center tube, sides, and all of the decorative grooves. Dust the pan lightly with cocoa powder rather than flour. This helps prevent white patches from appearing on the finished chocolate cake.
Set the prepared pan aside.
2. Combine the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Mixing these ingredients before adding them to the wet ingredients helps distribute the leavening agents and cocoa evenly throughout the cake.
Set the bowl aside while you prepare the batter.
3. Cream the Butter and Sugar
Place the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl.
Beat them together for about 3–4 minutes, until the mixture becomes lighter in color and fluffy.
This step is important because beating the butter and sugar incorporates air into the mixture, helping create a lighter texture.
4. Add the Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Once all four eggs have been incorporated, mix in the vanilla extract.
If the mixture looks slightly curdled at this stage, do not worry. It will come together once the dry ingredients are added.
