If you’re looking for a quick, satisfying dish that feels gourmet without the effort, pan-fried halloumi is the answer. With just three ingredients and a few minutes on the stove, you can create a dish that’s crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and packed with rich, salty flavor.
What Is Halloumi?
Halloumi is a semi-hard cheese traditionally made from sheep’s milk (sometimes mixed with goat’s milk). What makes it special is its high melting point, which means it doesn’t melt like most cheeses when heated. Instead, it holds its shape and develops a beautiful golden crust when fried.
Ingredients (Only 3!)
- Halloumi cheese (1 block)
- Olive oil (1–2 tablespoons)
- Fresh lemon (for serving)
Step-by-Step Method
Step 1: Prepare the Halloumi
Remove the halloumi from its packaging and pat it dry with a paper towel. This helps it crisp up better when cooking.
Slice the cheese into even pieces, about 1 cm thick. You can cut them into rectangles or squares depending on your preference.
Step 2: Heat the Pan
Place a non-stick or stainless steel frying pan over medium heat. Add 1–2 tablespoons of olive oil and let it warm up for about 30 seconds.
You don’t want the oil smoking—just hot enough so the cheese sizzles when it touches the pan.
