Method:
1. Melt the White Chocolate and Butter
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and butter. Microwave on medium power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the white chocolate and butter are fully melted and smooth. This process usually takes about 1-2 minutes, depending on your microwave.
- Alternatively, you can melt the mixture over a double boiler on the stove for a more controlled heat.
2. Add the Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Once the chocolate and butter are melted and mixed together smoothly, pour in the can of sweetened condensed milk. Stir continuously until everything is fully combined, creating a thick and creamy base for your nougat bars.
- The condensed milk adds a sweet, chewy texture to the bars and helps to bind the mixture together.
3. Fold in the Mini Marshmallows
- Remove the bowl from the microwave or heat source. Allow the mixture to cool slightly for about 1-2 minutes (you don’t want it too hot, or the marshmallows will melt).
- Gently fold in the mini marshmallows using a spatula, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the nougat mixture. The marshmallows will stay intact, giving the bars their signature soft, chewy texture with a bit of color and fun.
4. Press into a Pan and Set
- Line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) square baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving a bit of overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- Pour the nougat mixture into the pan and use the back of a spoon or spatula to press it down evenly. Make sure to smooth out the top for an even finish.
- Refrigerate the pan for at least 2 hours, or until the bars have firmed up completely.
5. Slice and Serve
- Once the nougat has fully set, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the block of nougat out of the pan. Place it on a cutting board and use a sharp knife to slice it into bars or squares.
- You can cut them into bite-sized pieces for a sweet snack, or larger bars for a more indulgent treat.
Storage:
- Store the Marshmallow Nougat Bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to a week, though they’re so delicious they likely won’t last that long!
Tips for Success:
- White chocolate options: If you don’t have white chocolate chips, you can also use white candy melts or almond bark. Just be sure to adjust for sweetness, as candy melts are typically a bit sweeter than chocolate.
- Marshmallow varieties: Feel free to use regular white mini marshmallows if you prefer a classic look. However, rainbow-colored marshmallows add a playful, vibrant touch to the bars.
- For a festive twist: These nougat bars can be easily adapted for different holidays! Use red and green marshmallows for Christmas, or pastel-colored marshmallows for Easter.
