Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add Yogurt and Oil: Gradually add the yogurt and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts coming together.
- Knead the Dough: Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes soft and smooth. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour, and if it’s too dry, add a bit more yogurt.
Step 2: Let the Dough Rest
- Cover and Rest: Cover the dough with a cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest for about 30 minutes. This will make it easier to roll out later.
Step 3: Prepare the Filling
- Mix the Filling Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the shredded cheese, chopped parsley, and chili flakes. This mixture will be spread onto the dough for each flatbread.
Step 4: Roll Out the Flatbreads
- Divide the Dough: Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions, depending on how large or small you want your flatbreads.
- Roll Out Each Portion: Take one dough ball and roll it out into a thin circle, about ¼ inch thick.
Step 5: Add the Filling
- Sprinkle with Cheese Mixture: Sprinkle a generous amount of the cheese, parsley, and chili flake mixture onto the rolled-out dough. For extra cheesy flavor, press down lightly to make the cheese adhere to the dough.
Step 6: Cook the Flatbreads
- Heat a Skillet: Place a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Brush it lightly with a bit of olive oil or melted butter.
- Cook the Flatbread: Place the flatbread on the hot skillet, cheese side up. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden and the cheese begins to melt.
- Flip and Cook: Flip the flatbread and cook for another 2 minutes until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Step 7: Brush and Serve
- Brush with Butter: Remove the flatbread from the skillet and brush it with a little melted butter or olive oil for extra richness.
- Repeat for Remaining Dough: Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls, stacking the flatbreads on a plate as you go.
Serving Suggestions
These cheesy, herbed flatbreads are best served warm. They pair wonderfully with a variety of dishes and can be served as:
- An appetizer with dips like hummus, tzatziki, or garlic yogurt sauce.
- A side dish with soups, salads, or grilled meats.
- A snack on their own for a savory treat.
Tips for Making the Perfect Flatbread
- Adjust the Heat: Ensure your skillet is at a moderate temperature so the flatbreads cook evenly and don’t burn.
- Experiment with Fillings: Add garlic powder or substitute parsley with other herbs like basil or cilantro for a twist on the flavor.
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in a skillet or microwave for a quick snack.
