Below is a detailed, step-by-step guide to help you make this delicious stuffed bread at home.

Ingredients

To prepare Garbage Bread, you’ll need the following ingredients:

For the Bread

  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

For the Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cooked bacon pieces (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced bell peppers
  • ½ cup sliced mushrooms
  • ¼ cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

Start by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage and cook it until browned. As the meat cooks, break it into small pieces using a spatula.

Once the meat is mostly cooked, add the chopped onion, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Continue cooking for another 3–4 minutes until the vegetables soften and become fragrant.

Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir in the bacon pieces if you’re using them. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the filling to cool slightly before assembling the bread.

Step 2: Prepare the Dough

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 10 × 14 inches. The dough should be thin but not so thin that it tears when you add the filling.

Place the rolled dough onto a sheet of parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet.

Step 3: Add the Filling

Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving about 1 inch of space around the edges.

Next, evenly distribute the cooked meat and vegetable mixture over the sauce. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly across the filling.

Make sure the ingredients are spread evenly so every slice of the bread will be full of flavor.
