What Makes This Dish Special?

Amish-style cooking is all about wholesome ingredients and straightforward preparation. This dish reflects that philosophy perfectly:

  • Simple pantry staples
  • No complicated techniques
  • Rich, homemade flavor
  • Perfect for family dinners or meal prep

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

For the Noodles & Sauce:

  • 250–300g egg noodles
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Mix gently using your hands or a spoon. Avoid overmixing, as it can make the meatballs tough. The mixture should be soft but hold together.

Step 2: Shape the Meatballs

Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized meatballs (about 2–3 cm in diameter). Try to keep them uniform so they cook evenly.

Place them on a plate or tray as you finish shaping.
