Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls: A Crispy Twist on a Classic Sandwich

If you love the rich, savory flavors of a Philly cheesesteak, imagine that same delicious filling wrapped in a crispy, golden shell. Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls take everything that makes the classic sandwich irresistible—tender beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions—and transform it into a crunchy, handheld appetizer or snack. Perfect for parties, game nights, or even a fun dinner idea, these egg rolls are surprisingly easy to make at home.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To recreate this dish, gather the following:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb (450g) thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin works best)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional but recommended)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese

For the Egg Rolls:

  • 10–12 egg roll wrappers
  • Water (for sealing the wrappers)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Optional Dipping Sauce:

  • Ketchup
  • Garlic aioli
  • Cheese sauce

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Beef

Start by slicing your beef as thinly as possible. If it’s slightly frozen, it will be easier to cut into thin strips. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Cook the Vegetables

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook for about 5–7 minutes until they become soft and slightly caramelized. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 3: Cook the Beef

Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and add the sliced beef. Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned and fully cooked. Mix everything together in the pan and adjust seasoning if needed.
