Seafood Salad: A Fresh, Flavorful Delight

Seafood salad is a light, refreshing dish that combines the delicate flavors of the ocean with crisp vegetables and a well-balanced dressing. It’s perfect as a starter, a healthy lunch, or even a main course on warm days. What makes seafood salad special is its versatility—you can mix and match ingredients based on what you have or prefer.

Here’s a detailed, step-by-step guide to creating a delicious seafood salad at home.

Ingredients

For the seafood:

  • 200g shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 200g squid (cleaned and sliced into rings)
  • 150g cooked mussels or crab meat (optional)

For the vegetables:

  • 1 cup lettuce (chopped)
  • ½ cucumber (thinly sliced)
  • 1 small red onion (finely sliced)
  • 1 tomato (diced)
  • ½ bell pepper (sliced)

For the dressing:

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Step 1: Prepare the Seafood

Start by cleaning your seafood thoroughly.

  • Rinse the shrimp under cold water and remove the shells and veins if not already done.
  • Slice the squid into rings and rinse well.
  • If using mussels or crab meat, ensure they are fully cooked and cleaned.

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the shrimp and cook for about 2–3 minutes until they turn pink. Remove immediately and place them in cold water to stop the cooking process.

Next, cook the squid in the same boiling water for about 1–2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook it, as squid can become rubbery.

Drain all seafood and let it cool completely.

Step 2: Prepare the Vegetables

While the seafood is cooling, wash and prepare your vegetables:

  • Chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
  • Slice the cucumber thinly for a crisp texture.
  • Dice the tomato and slice the onion finely to avoid overpowering flavors.
  • Cut the bell pepper into thin strips.

Place all the vegetables in a large mixing bowl.
