Crispy oven-baked bacon is one of the easiest ways to cook bacon perfectly without standing over a hot pan. Equipment Needed

You will need a baking sheet, parchment paper or foil, and paper towels. A wire rack is optional. Baking directly on parchment gives bacon a slightly richer texture because it cooks in its own fat. Using a wire rack allows the grease to drip down, making the bacon a little lighter and crispier.

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Tray

Start by lining a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. This prevents the bacon from sticking and makes cleanup much easier. If you want extra crisp bacon, place a wire rack over the lined baking sheet.

Make sure the tray has raised edges. Bacon releases grease as it cooks, so a flat tray can cause grease to spill into the oven.

Step 2: Arrange the Bacon

Lay the bacon slices in a single layer on the tray. Do not overlap the pieces. If the slices touch slightly, that is fine, but overlapping will stop them from cooking evenly.

If you are making a large batch, use two trays instead of crowding one. Bacon needs space for the hot air to circulate around it.

Step 3: Choose the Oven Temperature

Set the oven to 400Β°F, or 200Β°C. This temperature is ideal because it is hot enough to crisp the bacon but not so hot that it burns before the fat has rendered.

You can place the bacon in a cold oven or a preheated oven. Starting in a cold oven allows the fat to melt more slowly, which can create very even crispiness. A preheated oven works faster and gives a slightly more roasted finish.
