Creamy Vanilla Custard Pie with Graham Cracker Crust: A Smooth No-Bake Dessert Recipe
Creamy Vanilla Custard Pie with Graham Cracker Crust is a simple, elegant dessert made with a buttery crumb crust and a smooth, rich vanilla filling. It has the perfect balance of textures: a slightly crunchy golden crust around the edges and a soft, creamy center that sets beautifully after chilling.
The pie in the image looks like a classic chilled custard-style dessert. The filling is pale, glossy, and thick, while the crust is made from crushed biscuits or graham crackers pressed firmly into a pie dish. This dessert is perfect for family gatherings, holidays, summer meals, or anytime you want a sweet treat that feels homemade but does not require complicated decoration.
Why This Pie Is Special
This pie is loved because it is easy to prepare and tastes light, creamy, and comforting. The crust gives a buttery, slightly crunchy base, while the filling is smooth and rich with vanilla flavor.
It can be served plain, or topped with whipped cream, banana slices, berries, caramel drizzle, chocolate shavings, or crushed cookies. It is also a great make-ahead dessert because it needs time to chill before serving.
Ingredients
For the Graham Cracker Crust
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs or crushed digestive biscuits
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup melted butter
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the Vanilla Custard Filling
- 2 ½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Sliced bananas
- Fresh strawberries
- Crushed cookies
- Toasted coconut
- Chocolate curls
- Caramel sauce
Step 1: Prepare the Pie Dish
Choose a 9-inch pie dish or a deep glass baking dish.
Lightly grease the dish with butter or non-stick spray. This helps the crust release more easily when slicing.
A glass pie dish works well because you can see the crust from the side, which makes the dessert look beautiful and homemade.
Step 2: Make the Crumb Crust
Place the graham crackers or biscuits in a food processor and blend until they become fine crumbs. If you do not have a food processor, place them in a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
Pour the crumbs into a mixing bowl. Add the sugar, salt, and melted butter.
Mix until the crumbs look like wet sand. The mixture should hold together when pressed between your fingers.
Step 3: Press the Crust into the Dish
Transfer the crumb mixture into the pie dish.
Press it firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the dish. Use the bottom of a measuring cup or glass to pack the crust tightly and evenly.
Make sure the crust is not too loose. A firmly packed crust will hold its shape better when sliced.
Place the crust in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes while you prepare the filling.
For a firmer crust, you can bake it at 350°F / 175°C for 8 to 10 minutes, then let it cool completely before adding the filling.
