Apple Pie Bubble Up Bake: A Warm, Gooey, Easy Dessert Casserole

Apple Pie Bubble Up Bake is a cozy dessert made with soft biscuit pieces, sweet apple pie filling, warm cinnamon, brown sugar, and a buttery glaze. As it bakes, the biscuit dough puffs up between the apples, creating a soft, golden, pull-apart texture. The result tastes like a mix between apple pie, cinnamon rolls, and bread pudding, but it is much easier to prepare.

This recipe is perfect when you want a homemade-style dessert without making pie crust from scratch. It is simple enough for a weeknight treat but delicious enough for holidays, potlucks, brunch tables, or family gatherings.

What Is Apple Pie Bubble Up Bake?

Apple Pie Bubble Up Bake gets its name from the biscuit dough. The dough is cut into small pieces and mixed with apple filling. While baking, the biscuit pieces rise and “bubble up” through the sweet apple mixture. This creates a soft, fluffy, golden dessert with pockets of cinnamon apples in every bite.

It is usually served warm and can be topped with vanilla glaze, caramel sauce, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

For the Bake

  • 2 cans refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, optional
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter, optional

Optional Toppings

  • Caramel sauce
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Extra cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C.

Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. This prevents the sticky apple mixture from clinging to the pan and makes serving easier.

A glass or ceramic baking dish works especially well because it helps the dessert bake evenly and gives the edges a nice golden color.

Step 2: Cut the Biscuit Dough

Open the cans of biscuit dough and separate the biscuits.

Cut each biscuit into 4 or 6 small pieces. The pieces do not need to be perfect. Smaller pieces bake more evenly and absorb more apple-cinnamon flavor.

Place the biscuit pieces in a large mixing bowl.

Step 3: Prepare the Apple Filling

Pour the apple pie filling onto a cutting board or into a bowl.

If the apple slices are large, chop them into smaller pieces. This helps the apples spread more evenly through the bake and makes each bite easier to enjoy.

Add the chopped apple filling to the bowl with the biscuit pieces.
