Pecan Pie Bread: A Rich, Nutty, Caramel-Style Quick Bread Recipe

Pecan Pie Bread is a warm, sweet, and buttery dessert bread inspired by the classic flavors of pecan pie. It has a soft, moist bread base filled with chopped pecans, brown sugar, vanilla, and butter, then finished with a sticky pecan topping that tastes like the filling of a traditional pecan pie.

This recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, holiday baking, afternoon tea, or dessert. It is easier than making a full pie because there is no pastry crust to roll out, but it still gives you the same rich pecan pie flavor in every slice.

The texture is soft and tender inside, with crunchy pecans and a sweet caramel-like top. It can be served warm, at room temperature, or lightly toasted with a little butter.

Why This Pecan Pie Bread Is Special

Pecan Pie Bread combines two comforting desserts in one recipe: soft homemade quick bread and classic pecan pie. The bread itself is moist and lightly sweet, while the topping gives it a glossy, nutty finish.

The brown sugar and butter create a deep caramel flavor. The pecans add crunch and richness. Vanilla gives warmth, and a small amount of cinnamon makes the bread taste cozy without overpowering the pecan flavor.

Unlike yeast bread, this is a quick bread, which means it uses baking powder and baking soda instead of yeast. That makes the recipe simple, fast, and beginner-friendly.

Ingredients

For the Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon, optional
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

For the Pecan Pie Topping

  • ¾ cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Step 1: Prepare the Loaf Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F / 175°C.

Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray. For easier removal, line the pan with parchment paper and leave some paper hanging over the sides.

This helps you lift the bread out cleanly after baking, especially because the pecan topping can become sticky.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

Whisk everything together until evenly combined.

This step helps the rising agents spread through the flour, which gives the bread an even texture. If the baking powder or baking soda is not mixed well, some parts of the loaf may rise more than others.

Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.

Whisk until the mixture looks smooth and glossy.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each egg. Then add the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

Whisk again until everything is fully combined.

The buttermilk keeps the bread soft and moist. It also reacts with the baking soda, helping the loaf rise beautifully.

Step 4: Combine the Batter

Pour the wet mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients.

Use a spatula to gently fold the batter together. Mix only until the flour disappears.

Do not overmix. Overmixing can make the bread dense and tough instead of soft and tender.

The batter should be thick, smooth, and slightly lumpy.
