HOW TO MAKE SLOW COOKER HAM, POTATOES, AND GREEN BEANS
Green beans and potatoes cooked in a slow cooker are all you need to put up a filling lunch that the whole family will appreciate. The only thing that’s lacking is some bread on the side if you want that. The tastes are harmoniously combined, fusing the ham with herbs and spices that are distinctive without being out of the ordinary. It is highly recommended that you use a ham hock in this dish since the bone will provide an additional layer of flavor.
On the other hand, if you only have leftover ham, that is a perfectly acceptable substitution to make. Simply replace the ham hock with two cups of cooked, diced ham and toss it into the sauce.
Additionally, if you have access to fresh green beans, it is recommended that you utilize them; nonetheless, frozen green beans are a close second. However, you should not use green beans from a can since they have already been cooked and will turn into a mush by the time the cooking time is over. If, on the other hand, the only green beans you have are canned, you might add canned green beans that have been drained to the dish during the last 30 minutes of the cooking period to reheat them.
The combination of tastes in this green bean, potato, and ham dish is one of the reasons I like making it. The ham is enhanced by the addition of a dash of cinnamon and cloves. The green beans are delicious with the thyme added to them. The onion and garlic powders go well with the rest of the ingredients. When you combine all of them, you end up with a shockingly fantastic taste combination. I really hope that you agree with me!
THE INGREDIENTS LIST:
500 grams.Of ham hock.
A large can.Of green beans; cut into bite-size pieces.
3 Cups.Of warm water.
4 large potatoes; chopped in small-size chunks (skin on).
1 Tbsp.Of dry thyme.
1 Tsp.Of garlic powder.
1 Tsp.Of onion powder.
½ Tsp.Of black pepper.
1 Tsp.Of salt.
¼ Tsp.Of ground cloves.
½ Tsp.Of ground cinnamon.
Olive oil; about 2 tbsp.
PREPARATION:
1st Step:
Put the ham hock or the ham pieces in the bottom of the crock pot, then add the potato chunks, green beans, and water. Cook on low for 8 hours.
Note 1:
If you cut the potatoes too big, they will take much longer to cook than the rest of the food, which will delay the completion of the meal. My preferred range is one inch or less across the board.
2nd Step:
The next step is to incorporate the thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, ground black pepper, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon.
3rd Step:
After properly combining the ingredients, sprinkle them with some oil (about one to two teaspoons) and then cover them.
4th Step:
Cook on high for four hours, or on low for between seven and ten hours. All of this is contingent on whether or not you will be at home, as well as how fast you need it to be completed.
Note 2:
If you overcook the green beans, they will change into a mushy texture. But you definitely want the potatoes to be done.
5th Step:
When the green beans and potatoes are done cooking, take the ham hock and put it aside to cool for a bit before slicing the ham. This should be done after the green beans and potatoes have completed cooking.
6th Step:
Set the slow cooker to the warm setting while you let the ham chunks come to room temperature and then chop them up. Serve after bringing back the ham chunks.
