Amish Onion Fritters

 

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, milk, and chopped onions. Stir until the batter is smooth and evenly mixed.

  2. Pour ½ to 1 inch of oil into a deep skillet and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches about 175°F (80°C).

  3. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, gently spreading them out to form small fritters.

  4. Fry until golden brown on one side, then flip to brown the other side. Once cooked through, transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  5. Serve warm, with sour cream or your favorite dipping sauce, if desired.

These fritters are a delicious, nostalgic treat that pairs beautifully with any meal or can be enjoyed on their own as a snack.
