A timeless dessert with a buttery crust and soft, spiced apples that practically dissolve with every bite.
There’s something magical about a perfectly baked apple pie—the kind where the crust is tender and flaky, and the filling is so soft and flavorful that it melts in your mouth. This recipe is designed to give you exactly that: a comforting, bakery-quality pie with simple ingredients and a foolproof method.
🧾 Ingredients
For the crust:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 6–8 tbsp ice water
For the filling:
- 6–7 medium apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties works best)
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp butter (for topping)
For finishing:
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk
👩🍳 Step-by-Step Method
1. Prepare the Pie Dough
Start by making the crust, since it needs time to chill.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add cold butter cubes and cut them into the flour using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.
- Divide the dough into two disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30–60 minutes.
👉 Chilling is key—it ensures a tender, flaky crust.
2. Prepare the Apples
- Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
- Place them in a large bowl and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Add sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Mix well until the apples are evenly coated.
👉 Let the mixture sit for about 10–15 minutes so the flavors blend and juices release.
