For the Crust

  • 1 ready-made pie crust, homemade pie dough, or puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten, for brushing the top

  • Extra shredded cheese

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes

Start by washing and peeling the potatoes. Cut them into thin slices or small cubes. Thin slices give the pie a layered texture, while cubes make the filling softer and more rustic.

Place the potatoes in a pot of salted water. Boil for 6 to 8 minutes, just until they begin to soften. Do not fully cook them, because they will continue cooking in the oven.

Drain the potatoes well and set them aside. Letting them dry slightly prevents the pie filling from becoming watery.

Step 2: Cook the Onion and Garlic

Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
