Chicken Stuffed Crescent Rolls: A Cozy, Cheesy Recipe Everyone Will Love
When you need a comforting dinner that feels homemade without requiring hours in the kitchen, Chicken Stuffed Crescent Rolls are an excellent choice. Tender shredded chicken, creamy cheese, and flavorful seasonings are wrapped inside buttery crescent-roll dough and baked until golden and flaky.
These stuffed rolls are easy enough for a weeknight meal but delicious enough to serve at a family gathering. They also make a great way to use leftover cooked chicken.
Why You’ll Love These Chicken Stuffed Crescent Rolls
This recipe combines several things that make comfort food irresistible: flaky pastry, savory chicken, creamy filling, and melted cheese. The filling can also be customized depending on what you already have in your refrigerator.
The rolls are especially convenient because the chicken filling can be prepared ahead of time. Once everything is assembled, the crescent rolls only need a short time in the oven before they are ready to serve.
Ingredients
For the chicken filling:
- 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt, to taste
For the rolls:
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
If you are using freshly cooked chicken, allow it to cool slightly before shredding it. You can use chicken breast, chicken thighs, or leftover roasted chicken.
Place the chicken in a bowl and shred it into small, bite-sized pieces. Smaller pieces work particularly well because they make the filling easier to spread over the crescent dough.
Step 2: Make the Creamy Filling
Add the softened cream cheese to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the sour cream until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
Add the shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and green onions. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and a small amount of salt.
Mix everything thoroughly until the chicken is evenly coated and the ingredients are well distributed.
The filling should be creamy but still thick enough to stay inside the rolls. If it seems overly loose, let it chill for a few minutes before assembling.
Step 3: Prepare the Crescent Dough
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Carefully unroll the crescent dough and separate it into the individual triangles along the perforated lines.
Try not to stretch the dough too thin. Keeping the triangles intact will make them easier to fill and roll.
Step 4: Add the Chicken Filling
Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture near the wider end of each crescent triangle.
Be careful not to overfill the dough. Too much filling can make the rolls difficult to close and may cause the filling to escape during baking.
Using the back of a spoon, gently spread the filling toward the center of the triangle while leaving enough space around the edges to roll it securely.
