Chocolate Ganache Cream Pie

Few desserts strike the perfect balance between simple and luxurious quite like a Chocolate Ganache Cream Pie. It starts with a crisp, buttery crust and is filled with a smooth chocolate ganache that is rich without being overwhelmingly sweet. A cloud of lightly sweetened whipped cream on top adds freshness and makes every bite feel wonderfully balanced.

This pie is an excellent choice when you want a dessert that looks impressive but doesn’t require complicated decorating or advanced pastry skills. The filling comes together with just a handful of ingredients, and most of the work is simply allowing each layer enough time to cool and set.

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 1 ½ cups chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt

For the Chocolate Ganache Filling

  • 8 ounces semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Whipped Cream Topping

  • 1 cup cold heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Garnishes

  • Chocolate shavings
  • Cocoa powder
  • Mini chocolate curls
  • Fresh berries
  • A light dusting of powdered sugar

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Chocolate Crust

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Place the chocolate cookie crumbs in a mixing bowl. Add the melted butter, sugar, and a small pinch of salt. Stir until the crumbs are evenly coated and resemble wet sand.

Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and slightly up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Use the bottom of a glass or measuring cup to compact the crust so it holds together properly.

Bake for approximately 8–10 minutes, then remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

For an even easier version, the crust can also be chilled without baking, although baking gives it a firmer texture and deeper flavor.

Step 2: Chop the Chocolate

While the crust cools, finely chop the chocolate.

This step is important because smaller pieces melt much more evenly when the hot cream is added. Place the chopped chocolate into a heatproof bowl.

If you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor, use bittersweet chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate will produce a slightly sweeter, softer-tasting filling.
