Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 pound (450 g) mushrooms – white button or cremini, cleaned and sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
- ½ cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Step-by-Step Method
Step 1: Prepare the Mushrooms
Start by cleaning your mushrooms. Use a damp paper towel or soft brush to remove any dirt—avoid soaking them in water as mushrooms absorb moisture and can become soggy. Slice them evenly so they cook uniformly.
Step 2: Sauté the Mushrooms
In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Once the butter melts and begins to bubble, add the mushrooms in a single layer. Let them cook without stirring for about 3–4 minutes to achieve a nice golden color on one side.
Then, stir and continue cooking for another 3–4 minutes, until the mushrooms release their natural juices and start to caramelize around the edges.
Step 3: Add the Garlic
Reduce the heat slightly and add the minced garlic. Stir for 30–45 seconds, just until fragrant. Be careful not to let the garlic burn, as it can turn bitter quickly.
