Creamy Peanut Butter Caramel Fudge Squares Cut in the Pan
There is something irresistible about a homemade fudge that combines two classic flavors: rich peanut butter and buttery caramel. These Creamy Peanut Butter Caramel Fudge Squares are soft, smooth, and wonderfully indulgent, with a creamy texture that makes every bite feel like a little dessert treat.
What makes this recipe especially convenient is that the fudge is made directly in a pan and chilled until firm, so there is no need for complicated shaping or individual molding. Once set, simply lift it from the pan, cut it into neat squares, and serve.
The peanut butter provides a slightly salty, nutty richness, while the caramel adds a deep buttery sweetness. A small pinch of salt helps balance everything and keeps the finished fudge from becoming overwhelmingly sweet.
Why You’ll Love This Fudge
- Creamy and rich: Peanut butter gives the fudge a smooth, luxurious texture.
- Caramel-packed: Caramel adds buttery depth and a soft, almost chewy quality.
- Easy to prepare: The mixture comes together in one saucepan.
- Perfect for cutting: Chilling the fudge in a lined pan makes it easy to portion into squares.
- Great for sharing: These little squares are ideal for dessert trays, parties, holidays, or homemade food gifts.
Ingredients
For the Peanut Butter Fudge
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the Caramel Layer
- 1 cup soft caramel candies, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Optional Toppings
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped roasted peanuts
- A small pinch of flaky sea salt
- A light drizzle of melted peanut butter
Equipment
You will need:
- An 8-inch square baking pan
- Parchment paper
- A medium saucepan
- A heatproof spatula
- A sharp knife
Step-by-Step Method
1. Prepare the Pan
Begin by lining an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little extra paper hanging over two sides.
The overhanging parchment will act as handles later, allowing you to lift the chilled fudge from the pan without having to dig around the edges.
Lightly grease the parchment with a small amount of butter or nonstick spray. Set the prepared pan aside.
2. Make the Peanut Butter Fudge
Place the peanut butter, sweetened condensed milk, white chocolate chips, and butter into a medium saucepan.
Set the pan over low heat. Stir continuously as the ingredients begin to melt.
The key here is patience. Keeping the heat low helps the chocolate melt smoothly without scorching the bottom of the pan.
Continue stirring until the mixture becomes thick, glossy, and almost completely smooth.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
3. Add the First Layer to the Pan
Pour approximately half of the peanut butter fudge mixture into the prepared pan.
Use a spatula to gently spread it into an even layer.
You do not need to make the surface perfect at this stage because another layer will be added later.
Place the pan in the refrigerator for about 15–20 minutes, just until the surface becomes firm enough to support the caramel layer.
4. Prepare the Caramel
While the first layer chills, make the caramel.
Place the unwrapped caramel candies, heavy cream, butter, and salt into a clean saucepan.
Warm over low heat, stirring frequently.
As the caramel candies melt, the mixture will gradually become smooth and creamy. Continue stirring until no pieces of caramel remain.
If the caramel seems too thick to spread easily, add another small splash of cream and stir until it reaches a spreadable consistency.
Avoid boiling the caramel. You want it smooth and pourable rather than aggressively bubbling.
