Doritos Taco Salad: A Crunchy, Flavor-Packed Twist on Taco Night

If you love the bold flavor of tacos and the satisfying crunch of Doritos, this Doritos Taco Salad brings both together in one colorful, easy-to-make meal. Seasoned ground beef, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, creamy cheese, and crunchy Doritos are tossed with a tangy taco-inspired dressing to create a salad that feels anything but boring.

It is especially convenient for busy weeknights, casual gatherings, potlucks, and family dinners. The ingredients can be prepared ahead of time, then combined just before serving so the Doritos stay wonderfully crisp.

Why You’ll Love This Doritos Taco Salad

This recipe works because every bite offers a different texture. The lettuce provides freshness and crunch, the seasoned beef adds savory richness, the cheese brings creaminess, and the Doritos provide that unmistakable salty crunch.

You can also customize the salad easily. Use your favorite Doritos flavor, swap the beef for shredded chicken or beans, add avocado for extra creaminess, or make the dressing as mild or spicy as you like.

Ingredients

For the Taco Salad

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 large head romaine or iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup corn, drained if using canned
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives, optional
  • 2 cups Doritos, lightly crushed
  • 1/3 cup sliced or diced jalapeños, optional
  • 2 green onions, sliced

For the Creamy Taco Dressing

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons salsa
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Ground Beef

Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

Continue cooking for approximately 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink.

If there is a large amount of excess grease, carefully drain it from the skillet.

Step 2: Season the Beef

Return the skillet to the stove and sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked beef.

Add the water and stir everything together until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the beef to simmer for about 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally. The liquid should reduce and coat the meat with a flavorful taco-seasoned mixture.

Remove the skillet from the heat and allow the beef to cool slightly.

Tip: Don’t mix piping-hot beef directly into the lettuce. Letting it cool for several minutes helps prevent the lettuce from wilting.

Step 3: Make the Dressing

While the beef is cooling, prepare the creamy taco dressing.

In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, salsa, lime juice, taco seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Taste and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. For more heat, add a little hot sauce or finely chopped jalapeño.

Cover the dressing and refrigerate it until you’re ready to assemble the salad.
