The Ultimate Comfort Food Dinner

There are some meals that just feel like home—and this dish is one of them. Juicy hamburger patties simmered in a rich, creamy mushroom sauce create a hearty, satisfying dinner that’s simple to prepare yet full of flavor. Perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekends, this recipe brings together pantry staples and transforms them into a comforting classic.

Why You’ll Love This Dish

This recipe is all about simplicity and taste. It uses minimal ingredients, requires no complicated techniques, and delivers a deeply savory result. The creamy mushroom sauce keeps the patties tender and adds a rich depth that pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, rice, or even pasta.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (about 300g) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk or water
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix gently until just combined—avoid overmixing, as this can make the patties tough.

Shape the mixture into evenly sized patties, about 1–1.5 cm thick. This helps them cook evenly and stay juicy.

Step 2: Brown the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add oil or butter. Once hot, place the patties in the pan and cook for about 3–4 minutes on each side, until nicely browned.

You don’t need to cook them all the way through at this stage—they will finish cooking in the sauce later.

Remove the patties from the pan and set them aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Mushroom Sauce

In the same skillet (don’t clean it—you want those flavorful bits!), pour in the cream of mushroom soup. Add the milk or water to thin it slightly.

Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. This adds extra flavor to the sauce.

Let the sauce heat gently for 2–3 minutes until smooth and slightly bubbling.
