Smoked Jalapeño Popper Dip

If you love the creamy, cheesy filling of jalapeño poppers, this smoked dip takes those same flavors and turns them into an easy, crowd-friendly appetizer. The foil-pan version is often called Smoked Jalapeño Popper Dip, and it is especially convenient for backyard gatherings, game days, potlucks, and cookouts.

The combination of cream cheese, shredded cheese, jalapeños, and smoky heat creates a rich dip with just the right balance of spice and creaminess. Cooking it in a foil pan also makes preparation and cleanup incredibly simple.

Serve it with tortilla chips, crackers, toasted baguette slices, pretzels, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Why You’ll Love This Dip

This recipe is easy to prepare but tastes like something much more complicated. The cream cheese gives the dip its smooth, luxurious texture, while shredded cheese melts into every bite. Fresh jalapeños add a bright peppery kick, and the smoker gives everything a subtle wood-fired flavor that you simply cannot get from an oven alone.

Another advantage is that you can prepare the dip ahead of time. Assemble everything in the foil pan, refrigerate it, and smoke it when you’re ready to serve.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup mayonnaise or sour cream
  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 3–4 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped
  • ½ cup cooked and crumbled bacon, optional
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese for topping
  • Tortilla chips, crackers, toasted bread, or vegetables for serving

Optional Topping

For an extra crunchy finish, combine:

  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

This topping adds a pleasant contrast to the creamy dip.

Step 1: Prepare the Jalapeños

Start by washing and drying the jalapeños. Slice them lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes if you prefer a milder dip.

For more heat, leave some or all of the seeds and membranes intact.

Finely chop the peppers so that they distribute evenly throughout the dip. This ensures that every scoop gets some jalapeño flavor rather than having large pieces concentrated in just a few bites.

Step 2: Soften the Cream Cheese

Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl.

If your cream cheese is still cold and firm, let it sit at room temperature for about 20–30 minutes. Softened cream cheese combines much more easily with the other ingredients and helps prevent lumps.

Add the mayonnaise or sour cream and mix until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Build the Creamy Filling

Add the shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, chopped jalapeños, green onions, garlic, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.

If you’re using bacon, fold the cooked crumbles into the mixture as well.

Stir everything together until the ingredients are evenly distributed. You want a thick, scoopable mixture with cheese and jalapeños throughout.

Taste a small amount and adjust the seasoning if needed. Keep in mind that the cheese and bacon can already contribute quite a bit of salt.
