French Toast Bites: A Delightful Mini Breakfast Treat

French Toast Bites are a fun, bite-sized twist on the classic French toast we all know and love. Crispy on the outside, soft and custardy on the inside, and coated with cinnamon sugar for a sweet finish, these little morsels are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even as a snack. They’re easy to make, quick to cook, and absolutely irresistible when served warm with syrup or fruit. Let’s dive into the step-by-step guide to creating these delicious mini delights.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the French Toast Bites:

  • 6 thick slices of bread (preferably day-old brioche, challah, or Texas toast)
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (or half-and-half for a richer taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional Toppings:

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries or banana slices
  • Whipped cream

Step 1: Prepare the Bread

Start by cutting your bread slices into small, bite-sized cubes (about 1 inch each). Using slightly stale or day-old bread is best because it absorbs the custard mixture better without becoming too soggy.

Arrange the cubes in a bowl or on a plate and set them aside.

Step 2: Make the Custard Mixture

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined. This creates a creamy, aromatic custard that will soak into the bread cubes.

Step 3: Soak the Bread Cubes

Add the bread cubes to the egg mixture and gently toss until all pieces are evenly coated. Allow them to sit for about 2–3 minutes so they can absorb the flavors. Be careful not to let them soak too long, or they might fall apart when cooking.
