Homemade Apple Pie: My Grandmother’s Recipe, a Melt-in-Your-Mouth Delight

To me, apple pie is not just a dessert—it’s a slice of memory, a taste of my childhood, and a legacy passed down from my grandmother. Her recipe, lovingly handwritten in a faded notebook, is simple, timeless, and absolutely divine. Today, I’m sharing this treasured family recipe with you, complete with step-by-step instructions, so you can experience the same joy this apple pie has brought to my family for generations.


Ingredients

For the Pie Crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 large apples (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp is ideal)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)
  • 1 tbsp butter (to dot on top of the filling)

Optional:

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (to mix with the egg)
  • Sugar for sprinkling
