One-Pan Chicken with Buttered Noodles: A Comforting Meal Made Simple

Few dishes combine simplicity, comfort, and rich homemade flavor as beautifully as One-Pan Chicken with Buttered Noodles. This dish is designed for busy days when you want a satisfying meal without using multiple pots and pans. Tender chicken, silky butter-coated noodles, aromatic herbs, and a flavorful sauce come together in a single pan to create a warm, family-friendly dinner.

The magic of this recipe lies in the cooking method: the noodles absorb the flavors released by the chicken, butter, garlic, and seasonings while everything cooks together. The result is a dish that feels slow-cooked and carefully prepared, even though it can be made in a relatively short time.

Why This Recipe Works

Traditional pasta dishes often require boiling noodles separately, preparing a sauce in another pan, and cooking the protein separately. This recipe simplifies the process by allowing the ingredients to build flavor together.

The chicken provides a savory base, the butter adds richness, and the noodles soak up the seasoned broth, creating a naturally creamy and flavorful coating. Cooking everything in one pan also means fewer dishes and better flavor concentration.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 500 g boneless chicken breast or chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Buttered Noodles:

  • 250 g egg noodles or any thin pasta
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • ½ cup milk or cream (optional for extra richness)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Garnishing:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • A small squeeze of lemon juice (optional)

Step-by-Step Cooking Method

Step 1: Prepare and Season the Chicken

Begin by cutting the chicken into evenly sized pieces. This helps the chicken cook at the same speed and prevents some pieces from becoming dry while others remain undercooked.

Place the chicken in a bowl and season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well so every piece is coated with the seasoning.

Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes while preparing the pan. This short resting period helps the seasoning penetrate the meat.

Step 2: Brown the Chicken for Maximum Flavor

Heat a large deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and allow it to warm.

Place the seasoned chicken pieces into the pan in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding because this can cause the chicken to release water and steam instead of developing a golden crust.

Cook the chicken for about 4–5 minutes on each side until it develops a light golden color.

The goal is not to cook the chicken completely at this stage; it will finish cooking later with the noodles. Remove the chicken temporarily and place it on a plate.
