Ingredients

For the Muffin Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Swirl

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

For the Sticky Pecan Topping

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 cup pecan halves or chopped pecans
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Muffin Pan

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Grease a 12-cup muffin tin generously or line it with parchment muffin liners. Proper preparation prevents sticking and helps achieve beautifully shaped muffins.

Step 2: Make the Sticky Pecan Base

In a small saucepan over medium heat:

  1. Melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar.
  3. Add the heavy cream.
  4. Cook for 2–3 minutes until smooth and glossy.

Remove from heat and stir in the maple syrup if using.

Spoon approximately one tablespoon of the caramel mixture into the bottom of each muffin cup. Top each with several pecan halves.

Set aside while preparing the batter.

Step 3: Prepare the Cinnamon Filling

In a small bowl combine:

  • Brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Melted butter

Mix until a thick paste forms.

This mixture creates the signature cinnamon-roll flavor hidden inside each muffin.
