Step 3: Mix the Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice, chicken, sautéed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is well blended. Finally, fold in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Assemble the Casserole

Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the mixture evenly into the dish. Sprinkle the top with an extra layer of shredded cheddar cheese. If you like a crunchy topping, mix crushed crackers or breadcrumbs with a tablespoon of melted butter and scatter over the cheese.

Step 5: Bake to Perfection

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.

Step 6: Serve and Share

Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. This dish stays warm for a long time, making it perfect for church suppers and potlucks. Serve with a simple green salad or some dinner rolls, and you’ll have a complete meal that feeds a crowd.

Why Everyone Loves It

This casserole is creamy, cheesy, and full of flavor, yet simple enough to prepare on a busy day. The combination of chicken, rice, and vegetables makes it hearty and filling, while the cheesy topping gives it that irresistible comfort-food quality. Best of all, it can be made ahead of time and reheated, which is a huge help when cooking for gatherings.

Every time I bring this dish to church, my friends rave about it. Some even joke that I’m not allowed through the door unless I have a pan of it in my hands! It’s a recipe that’s become a tradition, and it always reminds me how food has the power to bring people together.

Tip: You can easily customize this recipe by adding broccoli, mushrooms, or even substituting turkey for chicken.

Would you like me to also create a short, ready-to-print recipe card version of this dish so you can share it with friends at your church?
