3-Ingredient Pan-Fried Halloumi: A Simple Dish with Big Flavor

If you’re looking for a quick, satisfying, and incredibly flavorful dish, pan-fried halloumi is hard to beat. With just three ingredients and a few minutes of cooking, you can create a crispy, golden exterior with a soft, salty center that pairs beautifully with a wide range of sides. Whether you serve it as an appetizer, snack, or part of a larger meal, this dish delivers maximum taste with minimal effort.

What Is Halloumi?

Halloumi is a semi-hard cheese traditionally made from sheep’s milk (sometimes mixed with goat’s milk). What makes it special is its high melting point, which means it holds its shape when cooked instead of melting like most cheeses. This makes it perfect for frying, grilling, or even baking.

Ingredients (Only 3!)

  • Halloumi cheese (block form)
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh lemon juice

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Halloumi

Remove the halloumi from its packaging and pat it dry with a paper towel. This step is important because excess moisture can prevent the cheese from crisping properly.

Next, slice the halloumi into even pieces, about 1 to 1.5 cm thick. You can cut them into rectangles or sticks depending on your preference. Keeping the slices uniform ensures even cooking.

Step 2: Heat the Pan

Place a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of olive oil—just enough to lightly coat the surface. Halloumi already contains some fat, so you don’t need much oil.

Allow the pan to heat up properly before adding the cheese. A hot pan is key to achieving that golden crust.
