Prestígio Cake: A Decadent Brazilian Chocolate and Coconut Classic

If you love the combination of rich chocolate and sweet coconut, Prestígio Cake is the kind of dessert that deserves a place on your baking list. Inspired by the beloved Brazilian Prestígio chocolate bar, this cake brings together tender chocolate cake, a creamy coconut filling, and a smooth chocolate topping.

The result is wonderfully rich without being complicated. Each slice has a soft chocolate crumb, a generous layer of coconut cream, and a glossy chocolate finish that makes the cake look just as tempting as it tastes.

It is an excellent choice for birthdays, family gatherings, holidays, or simply when you want to turn an ordinary dessert into something special.

What Makes Prestígio Cake Special?

The magic of this cake comes from the contrast between its components. The chocolate cake provides a deep cocoa flavor, while the coconut filling adds sweetness and a creamy, slightly chewy texture. The chocolate topping ties everything together.

For the best result, allow the cake to cool completely before assembling it. This makes the layers easier to handle and gives the filling time to settle between the cake layers.

Ingredients

For the Chocolate Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water or hot coffee

For the Coconut Filling

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened shredded coconut
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Topping

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 7 ounces semisweet or dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Optional Decoration

  • Shredded coconut
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Toasted coconut flakes

Step 1: Prepare the Cake Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease two 8-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper. Lightly dust the sides with cocoa powder or flour.

Preparing the pans before making the batter makes the process easier and helps prevent the delicate chocolate cake from sticking.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Take a moment to break up any cocoa powder lumps. A smooth mixture at this stage will help create an evenly textured cake.

Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.

Whisk until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined. Do not worry if the batter looks relatively thin—it should be more fluid than a typical butter cake batter.

Slowly pour in the hot water or hot coffee while mixing gently.

If you use coffee, you will not end up with a strongly coffee-flavored cake. Instead, the coffee can enhance the depth of the chocolate flavor.
