Candied Bacon Crackers: A Sweet, Salty, Crispy Appetizer Recipe

Candied Bacon Crackers are a simple but addictive snack made with buttery crackers, smoky bacon, brown sugar, and a little spice. They bake together until the bacon becomes crisp, the sugar melts into a glossy caramel-like coating, and the cracker turns golden and savory.

This recipe is perfect for parties, holidays, game nights, potlucks, and family gatherings. It uses only a few ingredients, but the flavor is rich and memorable. Each bite is crispy, sweet, salty, smoky, and slightly buttery.

What Are Candied Bacon Crackers?

Candied Bacon Crackers are small cracker bites topped with bacon and sugar, then baked until caramelized. As they bake, the bacon fat melts into the cracker, while the brown sugar turns into a sticky candy-like glaze. The result is a crunchy appetizer that tastes like a mix of bacon candy, caramelized crackers, and a savory snack bite.

They are easy to make in large batches, which makes them great for entertaining. You can serve them warm, room temperature, or slightly chilled.

Ingredients

  • 36 to 40 buttery crackers, such as club crackers or rectangular crackers
  • 12 to 14 slices thin-cut bacon
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, optional
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey, optional
  • Chopped parsley, optional for garnish

Step 1: Choose the Right Crackers

Use sturdy buttery crackers that can hold the bacon without breaking. Club crackers work very well because they are rectangular, crisp, and slightly rich.

Avoid very thin crackers because they may become too soft or break during baking. The cracker should be firm enough to carry the bacon and caramelized topping.

Step 2: Prepare the Bacon

Use thin-cut bacon for this recipe. Thick-cut bacon takes longer to cook and may not become crispy before the crackers get too dark.

Cut each bacon slice into pieces that fit the size of your crackers. If you are using rectangular crackers, cut the bacon into short strips. If using round crackers, cut smaller pieces that sit neatly on top.

The bacon should cover most of the cracker, but it does not need to be perfect.

Step 3: Prepare the Baking Sheet

Preheat your oven to 325°F / 165°C.

Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup. Then place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet.

The wire rack is helpful because it lets heat circulate around the crackers and allows extra bacon fat to drip away. This keeps the bottoms from becoming too greasy.

If you do not have a wire rack, you can bake them directly on parchment paper, but the crackers may be slightly softer.

Step 4: Arrange the Crackers

Place the crackers in a single layer on the wire rack.

Leave a little space between each cracker so the heat can move around them evenly.

Do not stack the crackers. Each one needs direct heat so the bacon can cook and the sugar can melt properly.
