Ingredients
For approximately 35–40 crackers, you will need:
- 1 sleeve buttery round crackers
- 8–10 slices thick-cut bacon
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
Equipment Needed
- Baking sheet
- Wire cooling rack
- Parchment paper or aluminum foil
- Sharp knife
- Measuring cups
- Small bowl
Step 1: Prepare the Baking Sheet
Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place a wire cooling rack on top of the baking sheet. The rack allows heat to circulate around the crackers and helps the bacon cook evenly while excess grease drips away.
Step 2: Arrange the Crackers
Place the crackers in a single layer on the wire rack. Leave a small amount of space between each cracker to allow even baking.
The crackers serve as the buttery foundation of the appetizer and will become slightly crisp while absorbing some of the bacon’s flavor.
Step 3: Cut the Bacon
Using a sharp knife, cut each bacon slice into thirds or halves, depending on the size of your crackers.
Each piece should be large enough to cover the cracker without hanging too far over the edges.
Thick-cut bacon works best because it retains its texture during the long baking process and creates a meatier bite.
Step 4: Wrap the Crackers
Place one piece of bacon on top of each cracker.
If necessary, gently wrap the bacon around the cracker and press it lightly to help it stay in place. The bacon will tighten slightly as it cooks.
Arrange all prepared crackers back onto the wire rack.
