Cheeseburger Biscuit Casserole: A Hearty Step-by-Step Comfort Food Recipe
Cheeseburger Biscuit Casserole is a warm, cheesy, family-style dinner that brings together the flavor of a classic cheeseburger and the comfort of a baked casserole. Instead of serving burgers on buns, this recipe layers seasoned ground beef, onions, tomato sauce, pickles, cheese, and soft golden biscuits into one easy dish.
It is rich, filling, simple to prepare, and perfect for busy weeknights, casual dinners, potlucks, or when you want something comforting without making individual burgers. The bottom layer tastes like a juicy cheeseburger filling, while the biscuit topping becomes fluffy, buttery, and golden in the oven.
Why This Recipe Works
The beauty of Cheeseburger Biscuit Casserole is its balance of flavor and texture. The beef mixture is savory and slightly tangy from ketchup, mustard, and pickles. The cheese melts into the meat, giving it that classic cheeseburger taste. The biscuits bake on top and soak up some of the sauce underneath while staying soft and golden above.
It is also a very flexible recipe. You can make it simple with beef and cheddar, or add bacon, jalapeños, mushrooms, extra cheese, or burger sauce for a more loaded version.

For the Biscuit Topping

- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Dish
Preheat the oven to 375°F / 190°C.
Grease a medium casserole dish with butter, oil, or cooking spray. A 9×13 inch baking dish works well if you are making a family-sized casserole.
Greasing the dish helps prevent the meat and cheese from sticking to the bottom and makes serving easier later.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the oil or butter, then add the diced onion.
Cook the onion for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes soft and slightly golden. Add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds.
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until it is browned and no pink remains.
If the beef releases a lot of grease, drain the extra fat before adding the sauce ingredients. This keeps the casserole from becoming oily.
