A Sweet, Creamy, Buttery Dessert Bake Made Step by Step

Cheesecake Crescent Rolls Casserole is a simple but irresistible dessert made with layers of flaky crescent roll dough, sweet cream cheese filling, melted butter, cinnamon sugar, and a golden baked top. It tastes like a cross between cheesecake, Danish pastry, and a warm bakery-style dessert casserole.

This recipe is perfect when you want something rich and comforting without making a complicated cheesecake from scratch. The crescent dough creates a soft, buttery crust on the bottom and a flaky golden layer on top, while the cream cheese filling becomes smooth, sweet, and creamy in the center.

It is a great dessert for family gatherings, holidays, brunch tables, potlucks, or weekend treats. You can serve it warm, chilled, or at room temperature, and it tastes delicious with coffee, tea, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, optional for a richer filling
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional Additions

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice for a light cheesecake flavor
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ cup fruit pie filling, such as cherry, blueberry, or apple
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Honey or caramel drizzle for serving

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F / 175°C.

Grease a 9Ɨ13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. This helps prevent the crescent dough from sticking and makes serving easier.

A glass or ceramic baking dish works well because it bakes the casserole evenly and gives the edges a beautiful golden color.

Step 2: Make the Cheesecake Filling

Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl.

Beat it until smooth and creamy. This step is important because cold cream cheese can create lumps in the filling.

Add the sugar and vanilla extract. Mix again until the filling becomes light, smooth, and sweet.

For a richer cheesecake-style texture, add one egg and mix until fully combined. The egg helps the filling set more firmly during baking.

If you want a brighter flavor, add lemon juice or lemon zest. This balances the sweetness and gives the casserole a classic cheesecake taste.

Step 3: Add the Bottom Crescent Layer

Open the first can of crescent roll dough.

Unroll the dough and place it in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Press it gently to cover the entire bottom.

If the dough has perforated triangle lines, pinch the seams together with your fingers so it becomes one solid sheet.

This bottom layer will bake into a soft, buttery crust that holds the cheesecake filling.

Step 4: Spread the Cream Cheese Filling

Spoon the cheesecake filling over the bottom crescent layer.

Use a spatula to spread it evenly from corner to corner. Try to keep the layer smooth and level so every slice has the same creamy center.

Do not press too hard, because the crescent dough underneath is soft.

If you want a fruit version, spread a thin layer of fruit pie filling over the cream cheese at this stage. Cherry, blueberry, and apple are especially good choices.

Step 5: Add the Top Crescent Layer

Open the second can of crescent roll dough.

Carefully unroll it and place it over the cream cheese filling. Again, pinch the seams together if needed.

Gently stretch the dough so it covers the filling as evenly as possible.

It does not have to look perfect. As it bakes, the dough will puff slightly and turn golden.
