Cheesy Mustard Pork Tenderloin Bites: A Savory Step-by-Step Recipe
Cheesy Mustard Pork Tenderloin Bites are tender pieces of pork cooked until golden, coated in a creamy mustard sauce, and finished with melted cheese for a rich, comforting flavor. This recipe is simple enough for a weeknight dinner but flavorful enough to serve as an appetizer, party dish, or special family meal.
The pork tenderloin stays juicy because it cooks quickly, while the mustard adds sharpness and depth. The cheese softens the sauce and gives the dish a creamy, slightly tangy finish. Every bite is savory, tender, cheesy, and full of flavor.
Why This Recipe Works
Pork tenderloin is naturally soft and lean, so it is perfect for bite-sized cooking. When cut into small pieces, it cooks fast and develops a golden crust on the outside while staying juicy inside.
The mustard sauce gives the pork a bold flavor without making the dish too heavy. Dijon mustard adds sharpness, whole-grain mustard adds texture, and a little cream balances everything. The cheese melts into the sauce and creates a rich coating around the pork bites.
Ingredients
For the Pork
- 1 ½ pounds pork tenderloin
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning
For the Cheesy Mustard Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard, optional
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, for garnish
Optional Add-Ins
- A pinch of chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon honey for a sweet mustard flavor
- Cooked bacon pieces
- Sautéed mushrooms
- Chopped green onions
Step 1: Prepare the Pork Tenderloin
Start by trimming the pork tenderloin. Remove any silver skin or tough white membrane from the surface. This part does not soften well during cooking, so removing it helps the pork stay tender.
Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces, about 1 inch thick. Try to keep the pieces similar in size so they cook evenly.
Pat the pork dry with paper towels. This is important because dry pork browns better. If the meat is too wet, it will steam instead of sear.
Step 2: Season the Pork
Place the pork pieces in a bowl.
Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and dried thyme or Italian seasoning.
Toss everything together until the pork is evenly coated.
Let the seasoned pork rest for about 10 minutes. This gives the seasoning time to stick to the meat and improves the flavor.
Step 3: Sear the Pork Bites
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add olive oil and butter. When the butter melts and the pan is hot, add the pork pieces in a single layer.
Do not overcrowd the pan. If needed, cook the pork in two batches. Crowding the pan can prevent browning.
Sear the pork for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown. The pork does not need to be fully cooked at this stage because it will finish cooking in the sauce.
Transfer the browned pork bites to a plate and set them aside.
