Cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

Preparation Method

Follow these steps to make your delicious Cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Bread:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Cut off the top of the bread loaf and hollow out the inside, creating a pocket for the filling. Be careful not to cut through the bottom or sides; you want the bread to hold the filling securely. Set the hollowed bread aside.
  2. Cook the Filling:
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onions (and bell pepper, if using) and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
    • Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet, seasoning with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce for added flavor.
    • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Stuffed Bread:
    • Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise inside the hollowed bread (optional) to add extra flavor and moisture.
    • Layer half of the cheese slices inside the bread, lining the bottom. Spoon the cooked steak mixture into the bread, pressing it down gently to pack it in well.
    • Top with the remaining cheese slices, ensuring the cheese is evenly distributed over the steak mixture.
  4. Bake:
    • In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the top and sides of the bread with the butter mixture.
    • Place the stuffed bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, and the bread is golden and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm, cut into thick slices for the ultimate Philly cheesesteak experience.

Tips for Making the Perfect Cheesesteak Stuffed Bread

  • Use the Right Cut of Meat: Ribeye is traditionally used for cheesesteaks because of its rich flavor and tenderness, but sirloin works well if you prefer a leaner cut.
  • Slice the Meat Thinly: Thin slices cook quickly and ensure the meat is tender. You can freeze the steak for 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thin.
  • Customize Your Fillings: Add mushrooms, jalapeños, or swap the cheese for your favorite melting cheese like mozzarella for a twist.
  • Serve Immediately: This stuffed bread is best served hot, so the cheese is melty and gooey.
