Chocolate-Covered Brownie Bars: A Rich and Decadent Homemade Treat

Chocolate lovers know there are few desserts more satisfying than a dense, fudgy brownie. But when those brownies are transformed into chocolate-covered brownie bars, the experience becomes even more indulgent. These bars combine the soft, chewy texture of classic brownies with a smooth outer shell of melted chocolate, creating a dessert that feels both bakery-style and homemade.

Chocolate-covered brownie bars are perfect for parties, lunchbox treats, or simply enjoying with a cup of coffee or milk. They are easy to make with simple ingredients, and the process is straightforward even for beginner bakers. In this article, you will learn exactly how to prepare them step by step, along with helpful tips to make them perfectly every time.

Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

For the Chocolate Coating

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil or butter (for smooth melting)

Optional Toppings

  • Chopped nuts
  • Sprinkles
  • Crushed cookies
  • Sea salt flakes

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving extra paper on the sides so the brownies can be lifted out easily later.

Lightly grease the parchment paper with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Melt the Butter

Place the butter in a saucepan over low heat and melt it slowly. You can also melt it in the microwave in short intervals.

Once melted, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly so it does not cook the eggs when mixed.

Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl:

  1. Pour in the melted butter.
  2. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar.
  3. Whisk until the mixture becomes smooth and glossy.

Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

The mixture should look thick, creamy, and shiny.

Step 4: Add the Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine:

  • Cocoa powder
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Baking powder

Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula. Mix just until combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can make the brownies dense and tough.

The batter will be thick and rich.
