Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Wash, peel, and cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a small pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes for 15–20 minutes, or until they become completely soft.
You should be able to easily pierce them with a fork.
Drain the potatoes well. Removing excess water is important because watery potatoes will make the mixture difficult to shape.
Step 2: Mash the Potatoes
Transfer the hot potatoes to a large bowl.
Mash them using a potato masher until smooth and lump-free.
Add butter while the potatoes are still warm so it melts completely and creates a richer flavor.
Avoid using a blender because it can make potatoes sticky and gummy.
Step 3: Season the Potato Mixture
Add the following ingredients to the mashed potatoes:
- Egg yolk
- Cornstarch
- Flour
- Garlic
- Cheddar cheese
- Parsley
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Paprika
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
Mix everything together until a soft dough-like mixture forms.
The mixture should be firm enough to shape but still soft.
If it feels too sticky, add a little more flour or cornstarch.
