Ingredients:

For the protein:

  • 200g (7 oz) sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 200g (7 oz) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (for marinating)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (for marinating)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (for steak)

For the noodles and vegetables:

  • 200g (7 oz) lo mein or egg noodles
  • 1 cup bell peppers (red and green), thinly sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • ½ cup snap peas or broccoli florets
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

For the teriyaki sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, for depth)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

For garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions
  • Chili flakes (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Marinate the Proteins

In two separate bowls, marinate the steak and shrimp:

  • Steak: Toss the thinly sliced steak with soy sauce, sesame oil, a pinch of salt and pepper, and cornstarch. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  • Shrimp: Season the shrimp with a little soy sauce and sesame oil. Let it rest while prepping other ingredients.

Step 2: Prepare the Noodles

Cook the noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain, rinse under cold water, and toss with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
