Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Spread: A Creamy, Spicy, and Flavor-Packed Appetizer
Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Spread is the kind of recipe that turns simple ingredients into something bold, creamy, and addictive. It combines sharp cheddar cheese, smooth cream cheese, fresh or pickled jalapeños, and a few seasonings to create a spread that is perfect for crackers, toast, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, or party platters.
What makes this cheese spread special is the balance of flavors. The cheddar gives it a rich and savory taste, the cream cheese makes it smooth and spreadable, and the jalapeños add a spicy kick without overpowering the whole dish. You can make it mild, medium, or extra spicy depending on your preference.
Ingredients
To make Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Spread, you will need:
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 to 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 to 2 jalapeños, finely chopped
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice or pickle juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped green onion or parsley, optional
Step 1: Prepare the Jalapeños
Start by washing the jalapeños well. Cut off the stems, then slice them in half lengthwise. For a milder spread, remove the seeds and inner white membrane. For a hotter version, keep some of the seeds.
Finely chop the jalapeños into small pieces. Smaller pieces mix better into the cheese and give the spread a more even flavor. You can also use pickled jalapeños if you prefer a tangy taste.
Step 2: Soften the Cream Cheese
Place the cream cheese at room temperature for about 20 to 30 minutes before mixing. Softened cream cheese blends more easily and gives the spread a smooth texture.
Add the cream cheese to a medium mixing bowl. Use a spoon or spatula to press and stir it until it becomes soft and creamy.
Step 3: Add the Cheddar Cheese
Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the bowl with the cream cheese. Sharp cheddar works best because it has a stronger flavor, but mild cheddar can also be used for a softer taste.
Mix the cheddar and cream cheese together until they are well combined. The mixture will look thick at this stage, which is normal.
