Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers: A Sweet, Salty, and Crispy Party Snack
Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers are a simple but delicious appetizer made with only a few basic ingredients. They are crispy, sweet, salty, buttery, and slightly smoky from the bacon. This recipe is perfect for parties, family gatherings, game nights, holiday snacks, or even as a quick treat when you want something special without spending too much time in the kitchen.
The best thing about Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers is the balance of flavors. The crackers become crisp and golden, the bacon turns smoky and savory, and the brown sugar melts into a light caramel coating. Each bite gives you crunch, sweetness, and saltiness at the same time.
Ingredients Needed
To make Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers, you will need:
- 1 sleeve of buttery crackers, such as Club crackers or any rectangular crackers
- 8 to 10 slices of bacon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes or cayenne pepper, optional
- A little maple syrup or honey, optional
Step 1: Prepare the Oven
First, preheat your oven to 350°F or 175°C. This temperature is perfect because it allows the bacon to cook slowly while the brown sugar melts and caramelizes.
Line a baking tray with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Then place a wire rack on top of the tray. The rack helps the heat move around the crackers and allows extra bacon grease to drip down. This makes the crackers crispier and prevents them from becoming too oily.
Step 2: Arrange the Crackers
Place the crackers on the wire rack in a single layer. Leave a little space between each cracker so the heat can reach all sides. Try not to overlap them because they need room to bake evenly.
Rectangular buttery crackers work best for this recipe because they hold the bacon well and have a rich flavor. However, you can also use round crackers if that is what you have.
Step 3: Cut the Bacon
Take the bacon slices and cut them into pieces that fit the size of your crackers. Usually, one slice of bacon can be cut into three or four smaller pieces.
Place one piece of bacon on top of each cracker. The bacon should cover most of the cracker but should not hang too much over the edges. If the bacon is too large, it may curl while baking.
Thin-cut bacon is usually better for this recipe because it cooks faster and becomes crisp. Thick-cut bacon can be used, but it may need more baking time.
