Slow Cooker Peach Dump Cake
When you want a warm, comforting dessert without spending much time in the kitchen, Slow Cooker Peach Dump Cake is hard to beat. It combines sweet, juicy peaches with a buttery golden cake topping, all prepared directly in the slow cooker. There is no complicated batter to mix and no need to keep checking the oven.
The beauty of a dump cake is its simplicity. The ingredients are layered rather than mixed together, allowing the peaches to become soft and syrupy while the cake mix transforms into a tender, buttery topping. As it cooks, the peach juices mingle with the cake layer, creating pockets of rich fruit flavor throughout the dessert.
This recipe is especially convenient for family dinners, potlucks, holidays, or those evenings when you want something homemade but don’t want a complicated dessert.
Why You’ll Love This Slow Cooker Dessert
This peach dump cake requires very little preparation. You simply layer the ingredients, add butter, cover the slow cooker, and let it do the work.
The result is a dessert with several delicious textures: soft peaches underneath, a moist layer where the fruit juices meet the cake, and golden, slightly crisp pieces around the top and edges.
Another advantage is that you can serve it warm straight from the slow cooker. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and the cold, creamy ice cream slowly melts over the warm peaches and buttery cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (15-ounce each) sliced peaches in heavy syrup or juice
- 1 box (15.25-ounce) yellow cake mix
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
For Serving
- Vanilla ice cream
- Whipped cream
- Caramel sauce
- A light dusting of powdered sugar, optional
Step-by-Step Method
Step 1: Prepare the Slow Cooker
Lightly coat the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. This makes serving easier and helps prevent the edges of the cake from sticking.
If you want particularly easy cleanup, you can also use a slow-cooker liner.
Step 2: Add the Peaches
Pour the canned peaches into the bottom of the slow cooker.
If your peaches are packed in heavy syrup, you can use the syrup as part of the dessert for a richer, sweeter result. If you prefer a slightly lighter cake, drain some of the liquid before adding the peaches.
Spread the peaches into an even layer so they cover the bottom of the cooker.
Step 3: Add the Flavor
Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the peaches. If using nutmeg, add it at this stage as well.
For a warmer flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract over the peaches.
The cinnamon gives the dessert a classic peach-pie character while the nutmeg adds a subtle background spice.
Step 4: Add the Cake Mix
Open the cake mix and sprinkle it evenly over the peaches.
Do not mix the cake mix into the peaches.
This is one of the most important parts of a dump cake. The ingredients are meant to remain layered. The moisture from the fruit will work its way into the cake mix while the butter helps create the rich topping.
Use a spoon or spatula to gently spread the dry cake mix into an even layer if necessary.
